“The Georgian Music Competitions Fund” plays an important role in the development of national performing school. Its main goal is to demonstrate the young talented musician-perform¬ers and promote the artistic careers of the laureates.
During its not so long history the Fund has organized a number of competitions, including: “The Tbilisi International Piano Competition” (1st-1997; 2nd -2001; 3rd -2005; 4th - 2009; ), “The Georgian Competition of Musician-Performers”(1st- 1995; 2nd – 1999; 3rd- 2003; 4th - 2007; 5th -2011) and “The Francois Leleux Competition of Wind Instruments” (5 competitions 2001-2005). More than 1000 young musicians from 30 countries have taken part in them. Today many of them have become world-known musicians, prize-winners of numerous international competitions and festivals.
In the framework of the competitions, organized by the Fund, the prominent jury members and invited guest-musicians conduct master classes.
The Tbilisi International Piano Competition was founded in 1997.
The Competition takes place every four years and is held under the patronage of the President of Georgia. The founder of the Competition is the Georgian Music Competitions Fund, City Hall of Tbilisi, Ministry of Culture and Monuments Protection of Georgia.
Prof. Manana Doidjashvili, passionate inspirer of the "competition movement" in Georgia, is Director of the Georgian Music Competitions Fund.
Since 2002 the “Tbilisi International Piano Competition” has become a member-competition of the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC) in Geneva. In 2008 Tbilisi International Piano Competition hosted the WFICM General Assembly.
