According to historians King Vakhtang Gorgasali (r. 447-502) went hunting with a falcon in the beautiful forests. The king's falcon caught a pheasant and when servants went to find the pheasant, they found both birds had fallen into a nearby hot spring. King Vakhtang was so impressed with the discovery that he decided to build a city on this location. The name Tbilisi derives from Georgian word "Tbili", meaning warm. The name Tbili or Tbilisi ("warm location") therefore was given to the city because of the area's numerous sulfur hot springs, which have curing  and  reviving nature for the body.
